Why an anti-phishing filter?

Spam filters typically work by looking for combinations of words commonly found in spam emails. The problem is that phishing emails are designed to look just like legitimate emails. As a result spam filters have a really hard time identifying them. To make up for this, many anti-spam filter vendors have fallen back on “black lists“ to identify phishing URLs and phishing emails. Because these lists are manually maintained, they are at least several hours behind, which means that many phishing emails still reach user’s in-boxes.
