Italy’s Banca Popolare di Sondrio Makes Wombat Security Technologies Anti-Phishing Training Game Available to both Employees and Customers.
SONDRIO, ITALY / PITTSBURGH, PA April 1, 2009 – Banca Popolare di Sondrio (BPS) has announced that it has selected Wombat Security Technologies’ Phil game to help train its employees and customers not to fall for phishing attacks. Phil is a fun and engaging training game originally developed at Carnegie Mellon University and now commercialized by Wombat Security Technologies. The game, which was just featured in the December 2008 issue of Scientific American, has been shown to be significantly more effective at training people to recognize phishing attacks than more traditional training solutions used in industry today.
“Banca Popolare di Sondrio has a long tradition of innovation when it comes to protecting its customers and employees from Internet fraud”, stated Marco Tempra, Manager of Innovative Systems at BPS. “In addressing the technical and human vulnerabilities associated with phishing the Phil anti-phishing training game will play an important role in enhancing BPS’s information assurance and compliance training programs. A few years ago, we launched a website, navigosereno.it, to help our customers with the security health of their PCs (software updates, antivirus, antispyware,…). Wombat’s Phil complements this site by offering training to our customers, an important role for a little fish! A full version of the game is reserved to our customers and available through our SCRIGNO Internet Banking service. A limited version is publicly available on our site at popso.it/sicurezza.”
Wombat’s anti-phishing training game goes beyond the abstract understanding of phishing. It combines increased awareness with firsthand experience to create measureable and powerful teaching moments that translate into better overall protection. With the rise in phishing attacks seen over the past several years and the ability of these attacks to defeat anti-spam software and other security measures, organizations are increasingly turning to Wombat Security Technologies for more effective anti-phishing training and filtering solutions.
“We are pleased to add BPS to our list of customers. As the first bank in Italy to deploy Phil, BPS demonstrates its commitment to being at the forefront of the fight against Internet fraud” said Dr. Norman Sadeh, Founder and CEO of Wombat Security Technologies.
