History

Wombat Security Technologies was founded in June 2008 by Drs. Lorrie Cranor, Jason Hong and Norman Sadeh, all faculty members at the School of Computer Science at the world-renowned Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). At CMU, the founders launched what became the largest national research project on combating phishing attacks, with funding from the US Army and National Science Foundation. The success of the research led to commericalization of the technology and the formation of Wombat Security Technologies, Inc.

Today, Wombat Security Technologies is a leading provider of cyber security training and filtering solutions. Its software-based training solutions are designed to be engaging and effective, and have been scientifically proven to be more effective than traditional training. Wombat’s anti-phishing filtering solutions have been shown to catch significantly more phishing attacks than other filters. Wombat’s products are used in sectors as diverse as finance, government, telecom, health care, retail, education, transportation and utilities.
